Modelo Especial Beer Review

I have no interest in politics and none of my videos have any political bent. On my previous video about Figueroa Mountain Danish Red Lager, one viewer commented about Bud Light being a better beer and then viewers commented about Bud Light being for liberals and Sam Adams for right wingers. This is all nonsense to me. All I care about is what a beer tastes like. I don’t drink Bud Light, I do drink Sam Adams and normally I wouldn’t drink Modelo Especial despite it now being the best selling beer in the country. However, one day we bought a six pack of cans to make beer can chicken. This is where you shove a half full beer can up the chicken’s backside and grill it. It’s pretty tasty and I’m sure you can find recipes from others. One night I was low on beer and decided to try a Modelo. It wasn’t terrible. It’s light and refreshing and better than most inexpensive mass market beers. I wouldn’t go out of my way to buy it again but it served its purpose. So that’s it. Focus on the beer you like and forget the politics.

Figueroa Mountain Brewing Co. has four tasting rooms in Southern California. I have been to the one in Santa Barbara, which is located in the “Funk Zone” downtown and is a great place to try their beers. It has an outdoor covered area and live bands and is adjacent to Lucky Penny, which has great pizzas. You can order from Lucky Penny right there and they will deliver it to you.

Davy Brown Ale is one of my favorites. The beer is described as rustic, mocha-colored ale with notes of caramel, chocolate, and coffee. I find it goes great with burritos and a lot of other food but is not that good by itself as an afternoon refresher. It has a 6.7% ABV so it packs some punch but a relatively low 35 IBU. It has won a lot of medals at beer festivals over the years.

Boston Beer Company Samuel Adams Boston Lager Remastered Beer Review

I started drinking Sam Adams Boston Lager when it was first introduced in 1985. I was living in Boston at the time and I even went to see founder Jim Koch give a presentation about starting the company. This was before the craft beer craze and at the time Sam Adams was by far the best beer on the market. For years it is all I drank.

But over time better beers were introduced everywhere and I drifted away from drinking Sam Adams. I also think quality eroded, as several times I had beers that had bad aftertastes.

Recently Boston Beer announced that they had remastered the beer with a “cleaner and brighter taste” so I picked up a 6 pack to try it again. I have to say it has improved a lot. It is very drinkable and smooth. If you are looking for something fancy or different, then Sam Adams is not for you. What we have is a basic lager that is better than the big name mass market beers and is refreshing by itself or with food.

I can also tell you that the expiration dates on Sam Adams are very real and not a marketing ploy. A few years back I was on Vicodin for four months and did not drink alcohol for fear of mixing. When I was off the medication, I opened a bottle and it was absolutely rancid. I had to pour a few six packs down the sink. My house smelled like a frat party.

Figueroa Mountain Brewing Co. Danish Red Lager Beer Review

On one of my other videos, a viewer asked me what my favorite beer was. I thought about it and then decided it was Figueroa Mountain Brewing Co. Danish Red Lager.

The beer itself has a more robust taste than regular lagers and goes great with spicy foods like Kung Pao Chicken. However, it is not that good by itself as an afternoon refresher. With a 5.5% ABV, it is higher than most lagers and with 23 IBU has no bitter aftertaste. It has won a lot of medals at beer festivals over the years.

Best Day Brewing Electro Lime Cerca de Cerveza Non Alcoholic Beer Review

This is the first non-alcoholic beer from Athletic Brewing or Best Day Brewing that I cannot recommend. I had expected it to be similar to Cerveza Atletica from Athletic Brewing. However, the addition of lime made it just taste lime seltzer with some hops added. If you are looking for a non-alcoholic Mexican style lager, go with Cerveza Atletica from Athletic Brewing. Or save some money and buy some seltzer with lime.
